ABOUT OTERO RANCH
With origins as a land-grant cattle ranch critical to the development of the Tubac Presidio of Southern Arizona, Otero Ranch is flush with history. When the property was developed into the Tubac Golf Resort in 1959, by an investor group that included Bing Crosby, it was designed to maintain its historic integrity with features like the Hacienda-style guest rooms and the resort’s restaurant, the Stables Ranch Grille, which was once the Otero Ranch horse stables. You’ll experience the historic landscapes of the Santa Cruz River valley and enjoy the resort’s storied locales — once enjoyed by Hollywood royalty — during the Otero Pop-Up Ranch.

OTERO RANCH HISTORY
Tubac began as a Spanish presidio in 1752, marking one of the earliest European settlements in Arizona. The presidio was a bustling outpost, playing a central role in the history of Arizona’s development during the Spanish colonization.
In 1789, Don Toribio de Otero received a Spanish land grant that became the foundation of Tubac’s long-standing ranching culture. For nearly 150 years, the Otero family ran a prominent cattle operation on the land, deeply shaping the area’s agricultural and economic identity.
Tubac’s next chapter began in 1959 when Roy and Amelia Kreiberg saw potential in the land’s beauty and rich history. Bing Crosby was a key investor, alongside other Hollywood figures, making it an attractive destination for film stars.
The group transformed the former ranch into Tubac Golf Resort, inviting guests to experience the rugged charm of Arizona paired with luxury. The golf course, designed by famed architect Robert “Red” Lawrence, was the first step in Tubac’s evolution into a premier resort destination.
In 2002, the Allred family acquired Tubac Golf Resort & Spa in partnership with several investors. They embarked on a mission to restore and expand the historic property. The Allred’s have maintained the property’s deep historical roots while creating a Southwest escape for today’s travelers.
